MONTHLY NEWSLETTER WITH Rev. Dr. C. A. ONITIRI (August 2025 Edition)

4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken.” (KJV)

Greetings in Jesus’ Mighty Name!

Beloved brethren in Christ,
We joyfully welcome you to the month of August 2025 — a month ordained by God to lift us into deeper realms of obedience, abundance, and revelation. May the Lord open our hearts as we meditate on His Word and launch out in faith!

This passage tells the story of Peter and his fellow fishermen — seasoned men of the sea who had laboured all night but caught nothing. When Jesus stepped into Peter’s boat and taught the multitude, He then turned to Peter with an unusual command: “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch.”

Peter’s response reveals his human reasoning and exhaustion, yet his willingness to obey: “Nevertheless at Thy word…” This act of obedience led to an overwhelming harvest — so much so that the nets broke and the boats began to sink! Peter, awed by this miracle, fell at Jesus’ knees in repentance and humility.

  1. Isaiah 1:19: “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.”
  2. John 21:6: After the resurrection, Jesus gives similar instructions: “Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find.” Again, they caught a multitude of fish — reminding us that obedience brings abundance.
  3. Joshua 3:15–17: The priests carrying the Ark stepped into the overflowing Jordan — “launching out” — and God parted the waters.
  4. Genesis 12:1–4: Abraham launched out into the deep by leaving his father’s house, not knowing where he was going, but trusting God’s promise.
  1. NOAH: Obeyed God to build an ark on dry land — an act of faith that saved his household (Genesis 6:13–22).

2. PETER: Launched out in faith not only on water for fish but later walked on water to meet Jesus (Matthew 14:28–29).

3. THE WIDOW OF ZAREPHATH: Though she had only a handful of flour, she obeyed Elijah’s word and saw supernatural provision (1 Kings 17:8–16).

  1. Obedience Opens Doors: Even when instructions defy logic, obeying God’s Word brings unexpected breakthroughs.
  2. Faith Demands Depth: Sometimes our comfort zones yield nothing. Deep waters require trust, risk, and total dependence on Christ.
  3. God Rewards Effort Surrendered to Him: Peter’s all-night toil bore no fruit, but when Jesus took charge, his efforts became fruitful.
  4. Overflow Blesses Others: The catch was so large Peter needed partners. Your obedience can overflow and bless families, churches, communities.
  5. Humility in Blessings: Peter didn’t boast; he fell before Jesus, acknowledging his unworthiness — every blessing should draw us closer to the Giver.

Proverbs 3:5–6 — Trusting God beyond understanding.

Hebrews 11:6 — Faith that pleases God.

Deuteronomy 28:1–2 — The blessings of obedience.

Psalm 107:23–24 — They that go down to the sea in ships see the works of the Lord in the deep.

Romans 12:1–2 — Yielding fully to God’s will.

Beloved, as we step into this new month, may we not remain in the shallow waters of doubt or convenience. Let us launch out into the deep — deeper faith, deeper obedience, deeper commitment, deeper prayer — trusting that at His Word, our nets will overflow with His goodness.

May your August be fruitful, your obedience steadfast, and your testimony evident for all to see. Go deeper. The Master is waiting!

God bless you abundantly!
Amen.

Shalom!
