THEME: “THOU ART HIGHLY FAVOURED”
SCRIPTURE: LUKE 1V26-38.
“26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.” (KJV)
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the month of December, the last month in the “Year of Surprises”.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ remain with you all. Amen.
As we step into the final month of the year 2025, we are reminded that God often reserves the best for the last.
December represents a season of divine visitation, fulfilment of prophecy, supernatural help, and Heaven’s interventions.
This month, the Holy Spirit directs our attention to the angelic words spoken to Mary:
“Thou art highly favoured.” (Luke 1:28)
This is more than a greeting—it is a prophetic proclamation, a heavenly verdict, and a destiny-awakening announcement.
As God ushered Mary into a new chapter through favour, so will He open new chapters for us this month.
SCRIPTURE EXPOSITION:
1.Divine Timing (v. 26)
“In the sixth month…” reminds us that God works according to appointed times. December, the last month, is not late for God—He is still on time.
2.Divine Visitation (v. 26–27)
God sent Angel Gabriel to a virgin named Mary.
This shows that when God determines to favour a person, their background, qualifications, or location cannot stop Him.
3.Divine Identity (v. 28)
“Hail, thou that art highly favoured; the Lord is with thee…”
Favour is not an event; it is an identity God confers. Mary became the carrier of divine approval, divine presence, and divine blessing.
4.Divine Assurance (v. 30)
“Fear not…”
Every divine assignment comes with divine assurance. Fear cannot coexist with favour.
5.Divine Assignment (v. 31–33)
Mary was chosen as the vessel through which God would manifest His greatest promise—the birth of the Messiah.
Favour always leads to responsibility, purpose, and impact.
6.Divine Question (v. 34)
“How shall this be…?”
A sincere question from a sincere heart. Favour opens you to divine possibilities beyond human logic.
7.Divine Empowerment (v. 35)
“The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee…”
Favour is sustained by the Holy Spirit’s power. What God begins by favour, He completes by His Spirit.
8.Divine Testimony (v. 36–37)
Elisabeth’s miracle becomes a sign.
When God favours you, He connects you with the testimonies of others to strengthen your faith.
9.Divine Surrender (v. 38)
“Be it unto me according to thy word.”
Favour becomes fruitful only when met with obedience.
