HOPE & RESTORATION SERIES
DAY 17: THURSDAY AUGUST 17. 2023.
TODAY’S INSPIRATION: 1 SAMUEL 30V3-8.
“3 ¶ So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
5 And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
7 And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.” (KJV)
INSPIRATION NOTE:
l Samuel 30:3-8 recounts a key event in ancient Israel’s history. In this passage, following their return to Ziklag, David and his men discover that their city has been raided and burned by the Amalekites, and all their wives, sons, and daughters have been captured. Overwhelmed with grief and anguish, David’s men are on the verge of turning against him. However, amid the crisis, David seeks strength from the Lord and finds encouragement in the midst of despair. In a remarkable display of faith and trust in God, David inquires of the Lord through the priest Abiathar, receiving assurance that he will indeed recover everything that was stolen. With renewed hope and determination, David and his men embark on a pursuit that leads them to the Amalekite camp, where they successfully rescue all their loved ones. This passage not only showcases David’s resilience and reliance on divine guidance but also underscores the importance of seeking God’s counsel even in the most challenging circumstances.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father,
In our moments of despair and loss, we seek your presence and guidance. Just as David found strength in you when his city was plundered, we ask for your comfort and provision. May we trust in your unfailing love and seek your wisdom to help us overcome our challenges. Grant us faith like David’s, to believe that you can restore what has been taken from us.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
